The Story Behind Your Plate: Farm to Feed
From Kenyan farms to your table at Sierra Restaurants. There's more to your vegetables than meets the eye.
The full story, in one look.
01 — The Story Behind Your Plate
Every dish you enjoy at a Sierra restaurant begins long before it reaches the pass. It starts in the soil, on farms across Kenya, in the hands of the people who grow the ingredients that make our menus possible. This is the story behind your plate.
02 — It Starts With the Farmer
We work with Farm to Feed, an organisation that works directly with farmers across Kenya. Their model helps farmers find reliable markets for what they grow — especially the perfectly good produce that would otherwise go to waste for being the wrong shape, size or colour for conventional supply chains.
03 — The Impact Is Already Happening
Farm to Feed has diverted over 1 million kilograms of surplus produce into productive and nutritious use. That means good food gets a chance, while farmers get a market for more of what they grow.
04 — Farming That Helps the Planet 🌍
It's a reminder that sustainability isn't only about what we put on the plate — it's also about what happens before it gets there.
Less food loss. Less environmental impact.
05 — What Happens to the Produce?
Our chefs turn fresh ingredients into the dishes you enjoy — making the connection between Kenyan farmers and your dining experience visible on the plate.
06 — Hear It From the Farm
“The partnership has created jobs for youth, enhanced inclusion of women, empowered farmers with knowledge and market connections, and strengthened local food security.”
— Jane, Kiambu County · Farm to Feed farmer
07 — Why This Matters to Sierra
Good food should create value beyond the plate. Farm to Feed's work demonstrates how sustainable sourcing can support:
- Farmers.
- Food security.
- Climate action.
- Local markets.
- A more resilient food system.
And that's a story we're proud to be part of at Sierra.
